The IRS should issue your refund check within six to eight weeks of filing a paper return. If you chose to receive your refund through direct deposit, you should receive it within a week. If you use e-file, your refund should be issued between two and three weeks. Regarding the state of New Jersey, wait 4 weeks from the day you filed an electronic (online) return to check the status, or wait 12 weeks if you filed a paper return. Returns that require manual processing may take 12 weeks or longer, whether filed electronically or on paper.
